Two days of good walks, but not very birdy. The paths are becoming less boggy, and the foliage is definitely leafing out.
There has been a moderately low tide, with ducks well offshore. It has been some time since I've seen sailboats in the Straits, but they've been out the past two days.
It was good to see the Straits looking such a glorious shade of blue this morning.
As always, there are abundant juncos, very agreeable re posing for photos.
I took the longer route through the forest this morning, in hopes of finding owls. I hear them at night, and sometimes in the morning when I'm out walking, but it's some months since I've actually seen one. Still, as the spring approaches, it's a nice walk.
The ferns seem to be preferred habitat for Pacific wrens. They're really speedy little creatures and I've yet to get anything like a decent photo. This morning one was singing quite beautifully--lately I'd only heard various calls and chip notes, so this was a treat and I'd guess another harbinger of spring. Alas, I've yet to figure out how to include recordings in this blog.
The river is high, swift, and clear, and the foliage is beginning to leaf out.
Tomorrow is a day set aside for domestic chores--I'm low on bread, and need to vacuum etc. Monday I'm scheduled to sail with the Arrowsmith Naturalists in an area this should be lively with the herring spawn. I'll report.
