27-29 June Kin Beach again

Back to Kin Beach for three nights.  My home had no water supply as it was being re-plumbed, and the campground was available.  I'd not expected campgrounds to be as available as they are, this season.  A change from last year, and a welcome one.

It's not exactly wilderness, just a small campground with minimal amenities--pit potties (well maintained), fire pits, and well spaced campgrounds with fine views of the Salish Sea.

I took my time driving up, stopping at Deep Bay to admire the view of the light house and the coast.

I then made my way north, stopping at a park south of Royston, with interesting logging history.  I'd passed the sign often on my way north but never quite figured out where it was before.  It appears popular and well serviced.

The skies were showy this trip--clouds promising changes in weather.

I explored Comox a bit before arriving at the campground.  As has everything, it's grown.

There were parachutists landing in the campground when I arrived--part of the Air Force, I gather.  Not an activity that I ever wanted to try.

Again, the campground was quiet and uncrowded.

It was relatively warm, enough so that the young eagle nesting near me spent most of the day with his beak open.

Birds pant, like dogs, in hot weather.  They don't sweat--feathers just don't seem to allow for that.

It was a bit cooler on Tuesday.  I took several lazy walks along the shore, again admiring the skies.

It threatened rain.  I could see rain descending from the clouds but never actually touching down.

There were columbia lilies blooming near my campsite.  I don't recall ever seeing them before.

On Wednesday morning, apparently as I was cooking my breakfast, the young eagle did his first flight, and was sitting atop a nearby fir tree.  There was great conversation between him and his mom.  By the time I had my camera set up, he'd returned to his nest, looking proud, as a young eagle can.

I made my way back to Parksville, where indeed my home is re-plumbed, and enjoyed a shower.
