Two quiet days birdwise.  Very low tides, and rain on the night of August 30th.

On the 30th, the Nature Trust had brought in a water tank to try to salvage a restoration plot that was becoming very dry.

The Arrowsmith Naturalists had planted it with native flora a couple of years back and it had seemed to be doing well, but in the drought, several of the deciduous trees had perished.  There was a water tank, but as I understand, it had run dry.

It seems a bit ironic that there had been a nice rain the night the replacement tank was brought in, but it still looks pretty dry.  More rain is forecast at the end of this week.  Fingers crossed.

There have been more white-crowned sparrows around than in previous months.  Although they're not a particularly uncommon bird, they are photogenic and tend to cooperate with my attempts at photographing them.

Three otters ran about the sandbar that is sometimes an island.

A brilliant sky over the Gulf Islands

At the end of my walk yesterday, a handsome juvenile flicker.

A couple more dry days, and what promises (fingers very crossed) to be a rainy weekend.  We'll hope.
